How pricing works

How Moving Prices Work at Olympic

Every move is unique. Our goal is to give you the best service at the best price. As a locally owned and operated family company serving this area, we’ve found the best way to deliver that value is by the hour. All of our local jobs in town are billed hourly, so you only pay for the actual time you use.

Local moves: billed by the hour

The price of a local move comes down to how many hours it takes and how many movers and trucks are scheduled. Olympic is licensed, with over 20 years of experience, and we send the right crew size so the job goes efficiently, with trained professionals that have worked with us for years.

How time is counted

  • Your billable time is loading, unloading, and the drive between your two locations counted once more (double drive time, required by California law). For local moves the drive counts as at least 15 minutes, and it’s calculated by GPS.
  • Every local move has a 3-hour minimum, weekdays and Saturdays alike. The minimum includes the double drive time.
  • After the minimum, time is rounded to the nearest quarter hour.
  • Olympic doesn’t schedule moves on Sundays.

A guide to crew size

A starting point, not a promise. You decide, and the free virtual estimate helps us suggest the right crew for your home.

Local moves are billed by the hour for the actual time, so this is a guide only, never a binding number. Bigger homes can use more than one truck.

Long-distance moves: a flat-rate quote from our team

Moves of roughly more than 50 miles aren’t billed by the hour. The Olympic team prepares a flat-rate quote for your specific move, based on the distance, your inventory, access at both homes (stairs, how close the truck can park) and your dates.

Your flat rate includes

  • The moving crew
  • A fully equipped truck
  • Fuel
  • Van prep
  • Relocation equipment
  • Loading
  • Unloading
  • Placement of your furniture in your new home

A typical long-distance move is one full truckload over two days: we load one day and deliver the next. Your dates are confirmed with the office.

Walk GinaBot, our website assistant, through your home room by room, typed or spoken. Include the garage, attic, patio and any storage, since anything left out just makes moving day take longer. The Olympic team uses your inventory to plan the right movers and trucks and gets back to you with approximate hours.

Our trucks

Olympic runs three 26-ft moving trucks, each with a lift gate. Lift gates make heavy pieces like appliances, safes and gym equipment safer to load.

Pricing questions

Why don’t you post hourly rates?

Because every move is unique. The rate depends on how many movers and trucks your move needs, and the total depends on how long it takes. Instead of a number that may not fit your home, we’d rather look at your inventory and give you approximate hours.

Is the crew-size guide a promise?

No. It’s a starting point. You decide how many movers you’d like, and because local moves are billed by the hour, the guide is never a binding number. The free virtual estimate helps us suggest the right crew for your home.

What makes a local move take longer?

Things that weren’t on the inventory (the garage, attic, patio or a storage unit), boxes that aren’t packed and ready, long walks from the truck, stairs, and heavy items nobody planned for. The more complete your inventory, the more accurate your hours.

Do long-distance moves have a minimum or hourly charge?

No. Long-distance moves get a flat-rate quote from the Olympic team instead of an hourly charge. The quote is set for your specific move: distance, inventory, access and dates.

Can I get a copy of my inventory?

The virtual estimate is free. The itemized inventory is Olympic’s working document; a copy is available for a fee, or it’s included once you book.
