Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers about how moving with Olympic works. Don’t see your question? Ask GinaBot or call 559-392-2400.
What areas do you serve?
Clovis and Fresno are our home base. We also serve Madera County foothill communities such as Friant, Coarsegold, Yosemite Lakes Park, Oakhurst and Bass Lake, and we plan long-distance moves on a flat-rate quote. See service areas.
How much does a local move cost?
Every move is unique. Our goal is to give you the best service at the best price. As a locally owned and operated family company serving this area, we’ve found the best way to deliver that value is by the hour. All of our local jobs in town are billed hourly, so you only pay for the actual time you use.
The price comes down to how many hours it takes and how many movers and trucks are scheduled. Share an inventory with GinaBot and the Olympic team can get back to you with approximate hours. See how pricing works.
How is time counted on a local move?
Your billable time is loading, unloading, and the drive between your two locations counted once more (double drive time, required by California law). For local moves the drive counts as at least 15 minutes, and it’s calculated by GPS. Every local move has a 3-hour minimum, weekdays and Saturdays alike, and the minimum includes the double drive time. After the minimum, time is rounded to the nearest quarter hour.
How do long-distance moves work?
Long-distance moves (roughly more than 50 miles) are not billed by the hour. The Olympic team prepares a flat-rate quote based on the distance, your inventory, access at both homes and your dates. It includes the moving crew, a fully equipped truck, fuel, van prep, relocation equipment, loading, unloading, placement of your furniture in your new home. See long-distance moves.
What is a free virtual estimate?
Instead of a home visit, you walk GinaBot, our website assistant, through your rooms by typing or tapping the mic and talking. The Olympic team uses that inventory to plan the right movers and trucks and get back to you. It’s free. The itemized inventory itself is Olympic’s working document; a copy is available for a fee, or it’s included once you book.
Who are your movers?
Our movers are trained professionals that have worked with us for years. Every crew comes with blankets, stretch wrap and the right equipment for your home.
What trucks do you use?
Olympic runs three 26-ft moving trucks, each with a lift gate. Bigger homes can use more than one truck.
What kinds of moves are you best at?
Full household moves, especially larger homes and moves with packing. We also do senior and estate moves, pianos and specialty items, and office moves. Smaller moves are welcome to reach out too.
What’s included in a full-service move?
Packing (full, partial or fragile-only), blankets and stretch wrap on furniture, mattresses and box springs wrapped in plastic per California’s bed bug law, disassembly and reassembly, floor and doorway protection, loading, transport, delivery to the rooms you choose, and unpacking if you’d like. See full-service moving.
Can I pack some things myself?
Yes. Many customers pack the easy rooms and have us pack the kitchen, china, art and other fragile items. See packing services.
Can I book online?
GinaBot, our website assistant, starts your free virtual estimate and answers questions, but she can’t check the calendar or book a date. A real person at Olympic reviews every request and confirms the details with you.
How do I reserve my moving date?
Once you’ve shared your details, the Olympic office will contact you to go over your move and confirm the details. Your move is set once the office has confirmed it with you, not when you chat with GinaBot.
- A deposit is required at the time of reservation to hold your move day. Deposits are non-refundable.
- If you give us at least one week’s notice, we’ll transfer your deposit to a new move date one time.
- Moves rescheduled with less than 7 days’ notice have a rescheduling fee of 1 hour at the applicable hourly rate.
- Moves canceled within 48 hours of the scheduled move date have a cancellation fee equal to the 3-hour minimum or the quoted price, whichever is greater.
Do you move on Sundays?
No. Olympic doesn’t schedule moves on Sundays. If you were hoping for a Sunday, the Saturday before or the Monday after are the usual alternatives, and the office confirms what’s open.
What if my move is within 48 hours?
Please call 559-392-2400. A team member needs to confirm last-minute moves directly.
How are my belongings protected during the move?
Our crews wrap furniture in blankets and stretch wrap, wrap every mattress and box spring in plastic per California’s bed bug law, protect floors and doorways, and load the truck carefully so nothing shifts.
Basic liability protection is included at no additional charge. It covers items lost or damaged in our care at 60 cents per pound per article. That’s the minimum coverage, so we recommend full value protection for added peace of mind. Your move paperwork lists the valuation options (60 cents per pound per article, actual cash value, or full value protection); ask the office to go over them before moving day.
Please point out rare or high-value items before moving day so we can plan extra care for them.
How can I check that a mover is legitimate?
Before you hire any mover, ask for their California license number and look it up with the state. Olympic is a licensed California mover, MTR#0191777. Our guide How to choose a legitimate mover explains how to check.
Do you move pianos and safes?
We move upright and grand pianos, antiques and many heavy items. Tell us about safes, gym equipment or other heavy pieces up front (size, weight and location) so we can plan. See specialty moving.
What can’t go on the moving truck?
Hazardous materials such as paint, fuel, oil, solvents, propane and pool chemicals, plus perishable food. Keep valuables, medications and important papers with you. See what movers can’t take.
Do you offer storage?
Olympic doesn’t have a storage warehouse. If your move includes a stop at a storage unit, let us know so we can plan for it.
Ready to talk about your move?
Tell GinaBot, our website assistant, about your move in your own words. Type or tap the mic. It’s the start of your free virtual estimate, and a real person on the Olympic team follows up with you. Prefer to talk? Give us a call.
